  1. A Song

We have Johnie and Connie and big Paddy Flynn

    I
We have Johnie and Connie and big Paddy Flynn,
And Duffy the ganger ye all know him.
And Sweeny the driver who sleeps in the van,
But there's none to compare with the "water-can-man".
    II
Says Connie to Johnny we are very near done,
Brushing much up the hill is no simple fun.
But relief came at last the same I'll tell you.
By the gallant young hero name Tom Donoghue.
    III
We have "Hop and go easy" and "slow" for the work.
But a harmless creature without any pluck.
We are all very sorry he's leaving so soon
But now he's no longer a slave to the broom.
    IV
Says I to John Wiseman you must be a fool
To be joking with Lehane that thick headed mule.
But when you are joking keep as cool as you can
Or you will get your head broken from the "water-can-man".
