- First cut the rushes then dry and clip them in a grisit which contains tallow, hang them up in a dry place and they are now fit for use. The old people used an instrument called a sconce for holding the rushes whilst burning.
The people in olden times manufactured candles. They used a mould into which they poured the tallow.
