  1. The folklore on pages 108 to 118 was supplied by Mrs Byrne,Loran, farmer aged 80. Written down by grandaughter Maura Phelan aged 14.
    As long as my Granny can remember she said that Bernard Mc'Evoy was the strongest man in the Parish of Castletown and there was a poem made about him and this is a line of it.
    For throwing an iron and mowing new hay.
    Bernard Mc'Evoy he takes the sway
    He is dead now.
