  1. About 60 years ago an estate agent called Mr. Brooks was travelling from Carrickmacross to Castleblayney. Four men lay in wait to murder him along the route. One of the intended murderers named Brennan turned "stag" or turned King's evidence and his three partners were arrested. Mr. Brooks was warned in time and he went home another way. Brennan was afterwards known as "stag". Brennan and he and all descendants had their land free ever afterwards until the day of the landlord was at an end in Ireland.
