  1. On May day superstitious people put Spring flowers and green leaves outside their doors to bring them good luck for the rest of the year.
    Whatever day "Saint Martin" feast is celebrated on no one ever starts work on that day. There would be little start made in it the evening how ever small. Saturday is unlucky for starting work. It is said that work begun on that day is never finished.
    Most people like to plant some of their crops on Good Friday. If rain falls in St. Swithin's day, which falls in the fifteenth of July, it will rain for forty days; and throughout the year a wet Friday portends a wet Sunday.
    It is unlucky to go boating, bathing or fishing on "Whit Sunday.
