hotel in Longford. The roof was blown of the hotel and the windows were burst in. The visitors were in a bad way. They were afraid inside, but it was worse outside.
There was not a stack of corn left in the district but was blown down. A story is told of a local parish priest of Keash, whose name was Father "Co" Cosgrave. There was a neighbouring farmer spending the evening with him. When they heard the storm raging outside the farmer said he would go home and make his hay more secure and Father "Co" as he was affectionatly called - said he would go too, and look at a little cock of hay which he had for his horse. He went out and just put his "Camóg" against the side of the cock, and people say his was the only safe hay in the district. All the rest was blown over the country side.
