- (ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)Mary Lee had a sister-in-law, Bridget Lee (nee Masterson) who was owner and occupier of the present public house in Coroneary. She, too, was of a generous nature and was never known to refuse anybody for food whether they had the price of the commodity or not. When selling Indian meal she always gave over-weight - her motto being "Fill up and press down". There was then a belief prevalent among the people that if you cheated by giving short weight that the total weight cheated would be placed mysteriously on your grave pressing you down for all eternity. This woman had living with her a son, Pat, and a nephew, Philip Curran whom she intended for the church. Educational facilities in those days were not so plentiful as now. However, she managed to procure the services of the local schoolmaster, Mr John O'Rourke, Breffni Str. Aughavass. This teacher was very learned in English & Latin. The school was held every night in the best room of the house and was not only attended by the said boys but also by all the young people of the district. At last abuses crept in and the school was dis-continued.
