    When he takes them them out of the boiling water, they are as white as snow. Then he lets them cool. He splits the thick ones in two and starts to make the basket.
    Then he gets sally '' runners '', and puts them round under the rods and twists the rods round these runners. When he is finishing he gets a piece of sally and makes it about half an inch thick. He puts this on the top and twists the rods round it. When this is finished he gets a tough piece of ash and coils it well to make a handle for the basket.
    Some baskets handles are made of rods twisted together. There are other baskets made for bringing in turf, teaming potatoes and holding potatoes. The rods are not boiled for these baskets. My father, John James Gallogly, (age 44) makes all kinds of baskets.
