  2. Origin of Sliabh an Iarainn and Lough Allen - Tuatha Dé Dannan

    When the Tuata-De-Dannan came to Ireland it is said they landed at Sligo crossed Lough Allen and went in hiding on Sliab-an-Iarainn. They found iron on Sliab-an-Iarainn, hence the name Sliab-an-Iarainn (the mountain of iron).
    A battle was fought on Sliab-an-Iarainn between the Tuata-De-Danann and the Firbolgs, and it is said that the Shannon ran red with blood after this battle. The Tuata-de-Danann were victorious in their battle in Mag Rein.
