  1. There are many stories connected with the Penal Days. This story has been told to me by my mother who heard it some years ago.
    On the top of Sliabh an Iarainn mountain an old priest lived in a hut which was erected by the people of the district. Each morning this priest said Mass and a large crowd assembled to hear the Holy sacrifice of the Mass.
    One day as the priest was saying Mass the scouts gave the alarm that the soldiers were approaching. The priest and the people present escaped except two men who were killed. They were buried on the mountain side but no trace of the graves can be seen as the heather has now covered them.
