- Shrove which is the time proceeding Lent is called in this district "Seraft". In Shrove marriages most frequently take place because in Lent the marriages are disallowed by the Church.
The Sunday before Ash Wednesday is commonly called "Puss Sunday". All girls who did not get married are supposed to have a puss but in a leap year the Sunday becomes puss Sunday for the men.
On Shrove Tuesday which is called pancake Tuesday in this district there are many pancakes made which are eaten at the supper that night.
