  1. There was once two brothers and a half brother living in a house. The two brothers had two good farms of land and cable, and the half brother had nothing but an old calf and the old calf died. Then he skinned the calf and brought the hide to the town to sell it. When he was near the town a wee blue bird hopped up on the creek and when he came to the town he went into a house. A woman came out to him and asked him how much did he want for the hide. Then the woman asked him how much did he want for the bird and the boy said he would not take anything for the bird. The woman bid him forty pounds so he took the forty pounds and he went home. When he went home the brothers asked him where he got all the money. He said "I got it for the hide." Then the brothers went away and killed all the calves they had. Then they went away and sold the hides in the town. They could get only four pence for the hides and they went home and said that they would kill the brother. When night came the half brother went to bed and the two brothers took the gun.
