    Cures
    In olden times the people had some very queer cures. They had a very funny cure for the whooping cough. If they saw a man with a white horse passing by, they would go out before him and ask him for a cure. Whatever he could say suppose it was a loaf of bread and give them a cut each that was supposed to cure the whooping cough.
    If a person had a sore throat the cure was to tie a wollen stocking round his neck going to bed and it was supposed that the (whoopin) sore throat would be gone next morning.
