In a country house recently, in the village of Clonmoylan one long winter night, a man by the name of Patrick Tully told a story, about a marriage that took place in the year 1887. The marriage was in the townland of Cappagh of ___ ___ and ___ ___. That time it was the custom to be married early in the morning.
The man and his friends go to the girls house, they had drink and eatables there. They all started then to the church the man's people going into the church first. There were no such things as motor cars, they all rode on horse back and the bride sat beside her husband. When the marriage was over it was customary to have a race home. If it were the husbands people arrived at the house first he would be the boss, and if it were the wives people she would be the boss, so you can imagine how determined they were to win the race.
When the bridal party returned home, they had the wedding breakfast, and many guests attended the party. Many half barrels were opened, they had whiskey and wine galore. They all sang songs, danced, and made merry. A number of stray boys visited the house and played Irish music. They drank plenty, and when they were nearly drunk they gave recitations. The straw-boys disguised themselves b wearing old ragged clothes, straw ropes around their legs and eye-fiddles on their faces. There was usually a collection for the musician. It was the morning of the next day
