There is another article which the children make yet. It is a wind-mill which is not very hard to make. Two pieces of boards are nailed across one another, like a cross. A piece of tin is then nailed on each corner. Then the two pieces of boards are nailed to a long stick which is set up on the ground. When the wind comes this thing on the top goes flying round.
The children had great sport long ago when snow came by trapping birds. When the snow lies on the ground for a week or so, the birds get hungry and come near to the houses. To trap some of these birds such as the blackbird they got a riddle and left it on the ground. Corn or meal was then put in under it. Then a piece of a stick was put in under one side. On the piece of stick a long string is tied. Whoever is trapping gets hold of the end of the string and hides somewhere. Then when the birds go in to eat the food, the string is pulled and the riddle falls on top of them.
