  1. Long ago there were not many doctors. In that way the people had many cures for diseases.
Any family whose father and mother were of the same name can cure for the "mumps" in this manner. A pair of horses' "winkers" is put on whoever had the "mumps". Then the person whose parents are of the same name leads them to a spring well and goes round three times.
The cure for the whooping cough is to go round a donkey three times and each time one goes round one has to make the sign of the cross three times. Certain people rub for sprains. Old people say if a "strainer" is the first thing that a child gets in its' hands that child when it grows up can rub for sprains. The old people sometimes left a strainer in the child's way that it might reach for it and then it would have the cure.
The seventh son can cure for a disease called the "evil".
