    was soup. They put carrots, parsley, leeks, onions, celery and other vegetables in the soup. There were often two pots of soup boiled in each house.
    Some people long ago ate wheaten bread without butter and drank hot buttermilk before they went to bed. The bread was usually hot as it was used just after being baked.
    In olden times people got one white loaf in each house at Christmas time. They also ate puddings and beef. Meat was seldom eaten at any other time. On Easter Sunday people ate about three or four fried eggs each. People drank their tea out of pewter mugs and crockery pots before cups became common.

  2. In olden times the people had three meals a day, breakfast, dinner in the middle of the day and supper at night. Very often the people worked in the mornings before having food. For their breakfast some of the people ate porridge, and butter-milk, and more of them
