The farmers in this locality use iron or steel spades, digging machines, or some others plough them out. The neighbours help in this work by coming to give a helping hand in picking the potatoes from the earth. When this is done a considerable amount of the potatoes is stored in lofts or barns. What remain in the fields are "dressed up" into pyramid shaped heaps. They are then covered with grass and rushes, and finally they are clayed, to preserve them from rain, snow, frost, etc..
This is the finish to the growing and saving of the potato crop, and, this done, the farmer has his potato crop safely stored for the winter.
