- Bread
In olden times bread was mixed on a bread board which they called a “losad” (?). The bread was made oats or barley and mixed with milk. Sometimes people used to grind their own flour. First of all the wheat was dried on a griddle and taken to the quiren. A quiren is two big stones with a spout at one side and a handles in the middle and when the handle is turned the flour comes out in the spout. Oatmeal bread and barley bread were used. Bread was made a few times a week. The mark put on the bread is a cross. The cakes for special occasions were cream cakes pancakes and potatoe cakes.- Bailitheoir
