- Historical TraditionCromwell came to Mothel which is a small townsland near Carrick- on-Suir. There was an Abbey there, and monks living in it. Cromwell took the abbey, killed the monks, and took the heads of them. There is a stream in Mothel called Áth–na-gCeann which means “The Ford of the Heads” It is so called because Cromwell put the heads of the monks across the stream for steps.

“There was a ghost seen at Áth na gCeann and a man went to fight the ghost...”
There was a ghost seen at Áth na gCeann and a man went to fight the ghost and the man said three Hail Marys and called for the Saints Quan and Broguan and the ghost said “Only for Quan and Broguan you would remember the night you came to Áth na gCeann. Then the ghost disappeared.- Bailitheoir
