    the English soldiers were coming. The pupils were taught to read and write Irish and English. They wrote their exercises with a quill and ink or something with a burned piece of stick.
    Each evening the teacher went to the house of one of the pupils. He taught in the one place for about a month or five weeks and then went to teach in another district. On the day before he was about to leave, each pupil paid him some money.
