The bargain he made with the man was to give him five pounds for the night and to be back before sunrise with the news. The man that would bring him the news that his mother was dead his head would be cut off.
    The old lady was very weak and her death was supposed to be this night. The lot fell on a widow's son to keep vigil. He had no option but to go. On his way he couldn't stop.
