    Some years ago in fair Mayo,
    when I was but a boy.
    My dreams were light my heart was light, my hopes were full of joy.
    I thought I would see loved Banba free from the throues o f a king or queen.
    By the Corrils banks in Ireland ranks
    with my fathers oul Caubeen.

    My father said to my lad, this
    treasure I'll leave you,
    But free from stain it must remain
