    but the dates are the best for pigs. Some people made starch from the potatoes. It was timber ploughs they used to till the land then. They mixed boiled potatoes through the flour and made a cake out of it. This cake was called a potato-cake. Before flour was made it was all potatoes the people used. Sir Walter Raleigh was the first person who brought the potato to Ireland. When potatoes are up they are sprayed with blue-stone to keep off the blight.
    When the potatoes are ripe the farmer digs them. Some people dig them with the spade, others with the plough, and more with a digger. When the potatoes are dug they are
