  1. The townland of Aughoo is situated in the Parish of Ardcarn and the Barony of Boyle. There are nine families living in it, and thirty people between the nine houses. The names of those families are:- the McGowan's, Langan's, Regan's, Oate's, Mattimoe's, Brehony's, Langan's, Cullan's, and McGreevy's.
    The most common name in the district is Regan. There are eight thatched houses in it and one slated. There are three people over 70 years living in the townland. They have not any knowledge of Irish but they can tell plenty of stories in English.
