  1. Old Schools
    Long ago there were hedge schools in Ireland. The teacher and the children arranged a dry spot behind a thick hedge or in a wood. The teacher used to teach his pupils all the day. They used to sit on stone's, and on the grass.
    Every Monday morning each pupil had to bring a penny for the teacher's weekly pay and in Winter they had to bring a sod of turf each morning to the school.
    They had no blackboard only slates.
