  1. When the soot falls down the chimney it is a sign of rain, and the smoke often fills the kitchen instead of going up. Before rain comes we see a blue blaze in the fire, after rain the smoke goes up straight in the air, and it is a sign of good weather. In some houses crickets sing more before rain comes, and anyone having pains feels them worse than usual.
