- (continued from previous page)through the wick was first passed, then right through mould ond out on the pointed end leaving about half an inch suspended.
The wick, when in this position, and slightly pulled would come to the centre in mould.
This process being complete next comes the fats and their melting. Various fats were used such as sheep's fat pig's fat etc.
Which ever fat was used was put in a vessel then known as a grisset and placed over the fire.
When this was done all was now ready for the making of the candles.
The mould was now got and held in a perpendicular position with its pointed end downwards and into it the melted fat was poured and allowed to cool. The clip was removed and out came the candle.
Various other things were used for hardening and colouring like our Christmas candles of today.- Informant
