  1. The townland in which I live is name Carriga. It is situated in the Parish of Lavey in the barony of Upper Loughtee.
    There are about forty families in the townland. The approxemate number of people is 160. The family name most common is Conaty. The majority of the houses are small and thatched. Carriga got its name because the land is hilly and rocky. None of the people living in the townland know Irish. There are no people in it who can tell stories in either English or Irish. There were more houses in former days. There are not many now in ruins. Some people emigrated to America from this townland in former years. The townland is not mentioned in any song or saying.
