    and down in the churn, As a rule , in olden years, pancakes were made after churning was finished, and all that gave a hand at churning got some pancakes.
    The dabler is shaped like a saucer but in the centre there is a hole through which the dash slides. It keeps the milk from spashing out of the churn. In olden years a story was told after churning was finished and sometimes as song was sung.

  2. Once upon a time there was a man and a woman living in a little house near a river.
    This day they were churning and no sign of butter coming on the churn. They churned away for hours and still no sign of butter coming on the churn. They sat down to take a rest and in came a tall man with a wrinkled face. They told him the story about the milk. '' What about I take a hand '' he said. The woman said it was no use for they had churned themselves for four hours and no butter had come. '' That is strange '' he said '' but I will bring back the butter to your churn again. He made them shut the
