    oatmeal, put a little salt in it and mixed it into a paste with cold water. When they had it shaped into round cakes, they put it to bake in front of a hearth fire, standing against an iron griddle.
    When people are making boxty cakes, they wash and peel some raw potatoes, grate them, and squeeze all the water out of them, through a muslin cloth.
    They then take the potatoes and add a little buttermilk to them, some flour, pinch of salt, and a little baking soda; they mix all together and bake in little cakes on a pan. They are eaten
