  1. There is the ruins of an old abbey in Clareen. it is called Saint Kieran's Church. Tradition tells us that Saint Patrick gave St Kieran a bell which was to ring of its own accord in the centre of Ireland. Where the bell would ring he was to build a church.
    It chimed forth loud and clear on the top of "Bell Hill. It is said that (an old) the Saint met a red-haired girl on that spot so he did not build the church on that spot. Superstition would have us believe that it is unlucky
