In days long gone by it was a custom whenthe first cake was made from the new flour, it was slapped against the door seven times and was said with a prayer that no hunger would enter that year.
    An old rhyme says that
Barley bread would do a man good,
Rye bread would do him no harm,
Wheaten bread would strengthen his arm,
And oaten bread would sweeten his blood.
