    After a month or so the stalks appear above the ground. When they are two or three inches high they are earthed and the drag-stone run in the drills to break the lumps.
    The blight is a disease which affects potatoes. To guard against this the stalks are sprayed with bluestone and washing soda. As soon as weeds appear in the drills they are removed.
