There is about an acre sown under potatoes each year.

The ground is not manured in any way before ploughing.
There are two ways for sowing potatoes namely drills and ridges.
When the farmer is about to make a ridge he puts his plough in proper order he then attaches two horses by means of chains called traces.
After this he ploughs a sod about six inches wide and two inches deep from one end of the field to the other guiding his horses as straight as possible leaving at each end a space known as the headland on which he turns his horses and plough.
