  1. Once upon a time a man lived in a little hut among a few trees. He had a few fowls. He heard them cackling as they were perched on a tree near his hut. Soon afterwards he heard them flying in every direction He jumped from his couch and opened the door, thinking someone was trying to steal. The moon was shining as he stepped into the yard, when lo! he was struck with horror to find himself face to face with a tremendous leopard. How fierce he looked! He did not stir a step. He appeared to him like a ghost. He seemed to be spell-bound. So did the leopard. The man went quickly back into his hut and seized his rifle. He then went out into the yard. He now felt strong with his gun in his hand, and so looked out for the leopard, but the beast was gone. In the morning he saw the enormous footprints of the leopard. The next day he bought a goat. He resolved to tie it by the neck to a tree
