  1. There are old ruins of a very old monastery on Inch Island, built 1,350 years ago, owned by monks, some of the first that came to Ireland. It was attacked by Danes several times, but they did not succeed.
    It was abandoned 1,150 years ago. All the monks, except one, died, and he was taken away to Co. Limerick.
