  1. St. Colmcille lived on Inch Island a long time ago. There is a monastery and graveyard on it. The people used to go across the lake on a flag, that used to float the lake. After some time he went to Iona off the west coast of Scotland. He founded monasteries at Durrow, Swords, Kells and Inch Island.
St Colmcille was born in Gartan, in Donegal in the year 521. He was buried in Downpatrick in Co. Down along with SS. Brigid and Patrick. St. Colmcille converted a lot of Picts and Scots.
