  1. There were four gentlemen downed in Lough Gowna near Derrycasson House 70 or 80 years ago. Their names were John Dopping, - Fox, - Irwin, and - White.
There was another drowned in Lough Gowna, his name was Owen Shanley. He was a good swimmer. He took cramp in the water, sank, and was lost.
There was a flag on the shores of Lough Gowna. It used to carry the people across to Mass on Inch Island, and it also used to carry the corpses over to be buried in the graveyard on the same island. A boy and a girl were drowned off it. The flag separated, divided in two; the half they were on sank, and the other half came in, and is on Inch Island still. There were the marks of Saint Columkille's knees on it.
On another occasion, seven boys and seven girls were drowned in Lough Gowna. They went out to bathe and got drowned.
