  1. 3 There lived in Walderstown about seventy years ago a blacksmith named Kieran Moran.
    He was a great long jumper and a fighting man. He was the terror of the district and every one was afraid to say anything to him. On one occasion he jumped the dock basin at Athlone and people say the dock basin is twenty one feet wide. It was built with cut stone, so he had to rise on cut stone and land on cut stone with ten feet of water in the basin.
