  1. Amhrán - Tony Shannon's Ball (continued)

Ye gallant lads and lasses ¶ As it is close on Patrick's day

    (continued from previous page)
    405
    i cannot really tell
I'll praise that night with all my might
For I have got no other cause.
Tis a pity that our Irish boys are bound by British laws.
I have seen old Batty's circus
And the acting of blind Paul
But they could not hold a candle for Tony Shannon's ball.
Twenty after one oclock the barrel rolled in the door .
I was followed by the yankee and a couple of dozen more
The slippy yankee set to work
and placed it on a stool
    Judging by his movements
He would remind you of a fool
He called on William Slattery a pub man
    down the way
he told him go and get the tap and bore it right away
Slattery, with a biter look, responded to the call
Saying I wish to God I never came to Tony Shannon's Ball
