Shrove is the time that most people get married,in this district. The days that people do not get married are, Fridays,Mondays, and Thursdays. The months that people do not like to get are may, August, October, and December.the old sayings are-that the bride must have something new, something borrowed, and something blue. The bride usually gets money for a fortune, but if the man is going in to where the girl has the land it is the boy gets the fortune.About eighty years ago people often got married in their own homes .the priest used to attend the wedding and in the evening the parties were married .Some people, long ago, used to be married in their own houses, but if they were married in the church they used to travel there on sidecars. They used have weddings long ago.In the day time they used have the wedding in the brides house and about four o'clock they used to go to the bridegroom's house and have a wedding there ,it usually lasted there until morning .During the wedding the "Strawboys"came and all who were dancing sat down ,so that the "Strawboys"could dance. The Strawboys would be covered with straw and they used have their faces covered and everyone would be looking at them, trying would they know them .When they used to be going home from the church after the marriage they used to be driving very quickly .Long ago the bride and the bridegroom used to go on horse back, the bride used to be sitting on the horse at the back of the bridegroom.- Collector
