    rise as a lake, and if any persons with bad intentions thought of entering the house it would prevent them.
    Shoes are made in the locality by two shoemakers in Cranny, and one in Coolmeen. When shoes begin to break they are usually mended. If they break in the sides a "taoibhín" is put up, for the toe cap a "baracín" is put up. If they break in the soles the iron last is used to tack on a piece or put on a new sole.
    Clogs were boots made with timber soles and were worn by many in Winter or snowy weather. Pampooties are shoes made from untanned animals' hides.
