- There are many roads in this district. The principal roads are - one leading from Kilmurry McMahon Post Office to Labasheeda. One from Labasheeda to Kildysart, and one from Kildysart to Ballynacally, and thence to Ennis. There are Six Cross roads in this district, and these six roads lead to many places. One leads to Ennis, another leads to Kildysart, another leads to Kilmihil, another leads to Kilrush, another leads to Labasheeda, and another leads to the Kilmurry McMahon Post Office. The other roads are not of any importance, and these are usually called bye-roads. Some of the bye-roads around here are - Betty's Lane, the Shore Road, and Joe's Cross. Betty's Lane got its name from an old woman who lived in a small hut in this lane. Long ago the people of the parish used to bring sand from the shore through this road, and this is how it got its name. Nearly all these roads were made during the "Bad Times". When these roads were made the people that worked on them got about 3d a week, and(continues on next page)
