    small faction of teachers' pay now-a-days. The farmers who accommodated him for a week gave him a few shillings on the Sunday morning when changing residence. He always lodged with farmers within a mile radius of the school and the farmers beyond that limit whose children attended the school paid him two shillings and sixpence per quarter for each child.
