  1. All the land in this parish, and most of that in the neighbouring parishes, was in the possession of an Englishman named the Earl of Derby. The estate was sold to an Irishman named O'Connor about the year 1890.
    The Derby family must have had it for a considerable number of years for the teacher has some rent-rolls of theirs for the year 1760. Some ancestor of Lord Derby probably got possession of it after the Cromwellian Confiscations. Scarcely any of the names on the rent-rolls are to be met with now in the parish.
