  1. Potatoes are grown in this locality, but, as it is a heavy clay soil they are not grown as extensively as they are in soil of a sandy nature. From a quarter of an acre to an acre is the amount usually planted under potatoes in the district.
    When fresh ground sometimes called "bán" is put under potatoes it readily formed into ridges partly by use of a plough and partly by use of a spade. Old ground, that is, ground in which potatoes, or grain, has been sown, is readily formed into drills by use of a plough. In the case of a small garden or haggard the potatoes are sown on the flat by means of a spade, and when the stalks are well
