- When the cows are milked, the milk is put into "keelers" to set on a stellon in the morning and evening. When the cream was set it was skimmed with a skimmer and put into a vessel and it was kept for three or four days until they had enough to fill the barrel. When the people had not enough to fill the barrel, two or three neighbouring farmers would join together and carry it to one another in their turns.
The barrel was an ordinary oak barrel with a spike on each end and fitted on a frame like that of a grind stone with a handle on each end.
