   They receive some money - sixpence, three pence, etc. from the people of the house and they go off.
   A dance is held on St Stephens' night or some following night, and the money collected on that day is used to defray expenses.
   Bicycles are commonly used for hunting the wren at present.

2. Fool's Day

   The first day in April is called Fool's Day. The people make fools of each other on that day. Sometimes people are sent several miles with a letter and in that letter is written "send the fool farther". The person who receives the letter sends the carrier to someone else and he goes on and on until he finds what a fool is being made of him. When he finds out that he is "fooled" he is furious and there is often a quarrel.
