- Shrove Tuesday night was called 'pancake night' because the people make pancakes. They used to put a ring in one of them and they said whoever got it would marry first. There used to be great merry-making and feasting in the house on that night, because they said it was the last night before Lent.
- On St. Stiophan's day wren boys go around from house to house. They dress up in coloured clothes and painted faces. They carry a holly bush decorated with ribbons.
When they arrive at a house they go in and sing, play music and dance around the kitchen.(continues on next page)
